'We've just finished the roading design work to permanently repair the road and physical work will now start. We expect the repairs to be all completed by the end of November,” says Roading Manager Matt Busch.

The physical work includes grouted soil nails to stabilise the slope, both below and above the road, in the section closest to Coromandel Town. An anchored post and panel retaining wall will also be installed below the road on the Coromandel side of the Tokatea hill summit section.

There has also been repair work going on from the April event that saw a washout at the Fairy Falls site.

"Council approved a $1.85 million budget spread over the 2015/16 and 2016/17 years to enable this storm damage work to be completed," says Matt.

The cost of the Kennedy Bay Road work is supported by a New Zealand Transport Agency subsidy.
