Tauranga's former Act Party candidate Ron Scott is praising Don Brash's ascent to become the party's new leader.
Former leader Rodney Hide made the leadership change announcement at a joint press conference with former National Party leader Don Brash today.
Ron resigned from his position on the Act Party board in December last year because he thought Rodney Hide had become an 'embarrassment”.
'He was getting very embarrassing.”
Ron says Don Brash will have a positive effect on the party.
'They are going to be good because he (Don Brash) represents the brand that Act is aiming for.”
'It's not trying to be a centre party – it's a party of the libertarian economic persuasion and a liberal social policy. Don Brash personifies those.”
When Ron spoke to SunLive from Australia on Thursday afternoon he was unsure if he would rejoin the party now that it has new leadership.
'I'll have to see what the story is when I get back. Who knows? I've got a few personal things going on anyway.”

Age

I know we need people with wisdom but in some cases wisdom disappears with age! I believe that the average of ACT must be increasing and therefore some of the modern day thinking being lost with the old aged people.
I agree Tabatha, but...

No KiwiSteve the whole party should disappear to somewhere else. Do not think anyone else would have them. They are the party for the very rich and the poor get poorer. Sheriff of Nottingham stuff. We need a Robin Hood.

Head in the clouds on this one for sure, just shows you how short the memory of a politician needs to be, only long enough to forget Brash's last effort to be PM ... to many nemises around this turkey, HAIL HYDE

With that sort of logic and a blown in the wind mentality trust this ninny is not putting his name up for grabs at November election. As Joan Baez once said heaven help us all.

I think Rodders had a better chance to be re-elected than Brash becasue Brash has already had a go at it and was found wanting, not NZ wide party machine behind him this time folks.

Get rid of some more of the deadwood and ACT might be heading in the right direction.Start with Tauranga I would suggest
None of these inspire so why are they given headlines as gurus

How can you give any credence to what Mr Scott has to say.Politically he is a nothingness and at the last General Election in 2008 he polled only 217 yes 217 votes as an ACT candidate out of 37005 which comes out at decimal .59% !!!Hardly a spokesperson or authority on anything to do with ACT..While on the topic Summerhays as Green candidate polled 1461 votes or 3.94% Baldock as Kiwi candidate 1893 votes or 5.11% and Pankhurst as Labour candidate a paltry 2853 votes or 7.71% probably the lowest by any Labour candidate in that Election.

What a terrible thing to say tabatha! So you think it is a GOOD thing to steal from people? No wonder this country is in the state its in - the child-molesters of the mind (government education system) sure have done a good job disarming the people! This country will continue its downward spiral while unprincipled people like this chose theft and armed robbery over wealth creation and property rights. People who think(sic) that it is a good thing to take other peoples property, and to vote away other peoples rights by "the majority wins" system are looters and bludgers and should be avoided at every opportunity. I am ashamed and embarrased that people think this kind of behaviour is acceptable, let alone good or even moral.
mmp MAKES THIS HAPPEN

Because we have MMP allows the small parties to have way more say than the voters that have to their name. Minority rules the place.
