Capturing stars for the world

Astrophotographer John Drummond is in Tauranga to give a presentation on deep space photography.

He uses sophisticated cameras and computer technology to capture the images from far away and some of these will be viewable at the presentation.

John Drummond is giving a presentation on astrophotography in Tauranga.

Tauranga Astronomical Society president George Stewart says the society is excited about John's visit after he last spoke in Tauranga two years ago.

'He really does take the most outstanding photographs,” says George.

'The cameras he uses are the most sophisticated digital cameras especially made for astronomy work.”

John lives on a small farm with a dark sky west of Gisborne and is imaging and observing on most fine nights.

The presentation is at the Tauranga Astronomy Society's new observatory at Fergusson Park tonight, Tuesday, April 26, at 7.30pm.
