Kingfish biggest catch of the day

A 7kg kingfish and a 4kg possum were the biggest catches of the day at the Take a Kid Hunting and Fishing on Sunday.

Te Puna's Hunting and Fishing Club set the event up with family in mind.

'We are a family oriented club and aim to do more events like this that are suitable for whole families,” says organiser Nathan Exelby.

Nathan says the day is designed to get kids from three to 15 excited about fishing and hunting in the company of experienced adults, while teaching kids water and firearm safety at the same time.

'Most people who came were here for the first time or were returning after not fishing or hunting for a while and most weren't members of our club.

'The day was really good, no-one got hurt and no-one complaint.”

The event has been growing in popularity and even attracts people who are not members of the club.
