Congrats for Bay police

Tauranga MP Simon Bridges is appreciative of police work in the Bay of Plenty that has seen the region's crime rate drop 2.2 per cent per head of population in 2010.

'National is committed to taking action on violent crime and making our local communities safer,” says Simon.

Tauranga MP Simon Bridges.

'We're backing our police and support them in their work.

'We've introduced tough new legislation and given police new tools to deal with crime.

'It's great to see National's commitment and the hard work of our police making such a positive difference in the Bay of Plenty.

'I'd like to commend district commander Superintendent Glenn Dunbier and his staff for their dedication and hard work in keeping our community safe,” says Simon.

Of all recorded crime in the district last year, the theft and related offences division recorded the highest percentage (29 per cent of the total) followed by unlawful entry with intent/burglary/break and enter (13.6 per cent).

'While we're pleased to see a drop in recorded crime, our crime rate is still too high.

'National will continue to work with police to bring criminals to justice, address the drivers of crime, and send a clear signal that crime won't be tolerated.”

Congratulations would be in order if they have managed to get the electorate to swallow this carefully massaged set of figures. Ever noticed how every election year the party in power trots out some sort of confabulation along these lines. Many people don't bother reporting crimes these days because of the ridiculous delays in getting them dealt with and the pathetic penalties the courts dish out.

Simon needs to try harder

Just imagine the result if they were to concentrate on crimes with a victim instead of wasting their time busting people who who commit crimes against themselves (which is an oxymoron) This story{sic} is a blatant effort to gain brownie points by Simon, and stacks up alongside his other photo opportunities and saving cute furry animals. National will continue to waste their time and our money prosecuting people for committing crimes against themselves instead of time on the beat protecting our children from predators and home invasions etc. On your school report this would say: Simon needs to try harder

Get off the grass Simon

Why do some folk miss what Simon Bridges MP is really saying? It's simply "thanks Tauranga Police ... you do a fine job for our City". As usual the regular "I see a negative in everything" spin doctors turn it into something else comepletely.
