The Bay Trust Rescue Helicopter was dispatched twice on Saturday afternoon.
Around midday the chopper crew transported a 54-year-old Rotorua man with spinal injuries to Middlemore Hospital in Auckland from Rotorua Hospital.
Hours later they were called again, this time to the Reporoa Rugby grounds south of Rotorua, to assist a St John Ambulance.
The Ambulance had been called earlier to attend a sports injury but due to the patient's injury the support of the helicopter was requested.
A 23-year-old Rotorua man was airlifted to Rotorua Hospital in a comfortable condition with leg injuries.
