A 27 year old endure rider was flown to Waikato Hospital after he hit a tree during an organised event at Matata on Saturday afternoon.

He suffered serious chest and abdominal injuries. The rider was stabilised at the scene by paramedics before being flown to Waikato Hospital by the Trustpower TECT Rescue Helicopter.

The helicopter was called due to the location and the seriousness of the injuries that required immediate hospital care.
