PowerCo partners up with TCDC

Powerco is now a major partner of the Thames-Coromandel District Council's Active Thames 2018 projects.

Announced Thursday, the new partnership will see Thames' skate park and indoor sports facilities at Thames High School receive a massive $125,000 grant from the power company.

Mayor Glenn Leach says he approached Powerco to see if the company was interested in partnering with the council on local projects.

'Powerco's support is especially significant for the new skate park, which is now out for tender for the design and build contract,” says Glenn.

'We're looking forward to seeing the design which will include plenty of fun features for young people of all ages.”

In addition to the skatepark and indoor facility, the Active Thames project series includes a multi-sport clubrooms development at Rhodes Park. The Powerco grant is solely for the skate park at Porritt Park.

Powerco Chief Executive Nigel Barbour says the company is committed to supporting worthwhile projects in the regions it operates in.

'We are thrilled to be involved with this project, including the skate park which will give locals a family-friendly space for skateboarding, scootering and other activities," says Nigel.

'Active Thames 2018 is a fantastic opportunity and we are proud to be a major supporter.”

In addition to Powerco's contribution, there remains ongoing fundraising across the Active Thames 2018 programme.

The goal is to complete all the projects by the end of 2018, with the skate park being the first, while the tender to build the skate park will close on February 29.
