A motorcyclist caught speeding at 169km/h on State Highway 2 near Paeroa on Sunday has been blasted by police on social media.
On Monday the Waikato Road Policing Team took to Facebook to slam the rider's actions with a post which features a photo of the speed radar reading with the motorcyclist in the background.

Police were pleased the majority of motorcyclists travelling to Paeroa for the Battle of the Streets over the weekend were riding safely – but not everyone.
'One rider thought that travelling at 47m a second on SH2 in heavy traffic would be fun,” the post reads.
Motorists caught speeding at more than 50km/h over the limit can be charged with careless, dangerous or reckless drivi8ng, have their license suspended for 28 days, as well as face a substantial fine.

The post then highlights another crash involving a 50-year-old motorcyclist who'd been thrown from his bike after clipping a van on Te Aroha-Gordon Road later that day.
'At around 3.15pm a rider coming from Paeroa was seriously injured in a crash near Te Aroha. Initial indications are that he crashed. (*mindblown).”
The motorcyclist sustained compression injuries to his chest and was subsequently airlifted to Waikato Hospital.
Once again, police are appealing to all motorists to take road safely seriously.
'Police enforce speed limits, driver licences and vehicle standards among other things. The NZTA build more forgiving roads and encourage people to drive sober, and slower, and more socially.
'And Police, fire and ambulance pick up the pieces when it all goes wrong. But road safety is everyone's responsibility.”

that this happened. As motorcyclists we are (or should be) acutely aware of what is around us and consequences of speeding. 169 is just plain stupid and hopefully the rider will get appropriate penalty for the offence. I'm not sure it is wise tho for Police to link this speeding issue with that of the other incident near TeAroha on the same day. We (the public) are generally not made aware of the facts around such incidents (ie: speeding, other vehicle at fault, alcohol, mechanical issues etc). On the plus side (for the Police) I did expect much more Police "prescence" on my journey (to Paeroa),which didn't appear to be the case, so us more "law abiding" types can actually enjoy our riding uninterrupted.169...not good..no wonder we seem to be 'targeted" often!
oh dear

Perhaps his bike should have been squashed cause just losing his licence aint going to stop him
Another slap on the wrist....

Hope bike got impounded. Unfortunately, the roads will never be safe until the system hardens up... too soft!

Takng his license off him does not stop him from doing it again. But take the bike off him does. Grow some balls Police.
