Health warning in Pilot Bay

Health warning signs will remain in place at Pilot Bay until the Tauranga City Council gets confirmation that yesterday's sewage has dissipated.

Tauranga City Council communications advisor Marcel Currin told SunLive water samples were taken this morning and the spill was not significant and 'probably cleared with the tide overnight”.

However, Marcel says the health warning signs will remain in place until they have confirmation the contamination has gone.

Test results normally take 48 hours and council are hopeful the warning signs would be removed by tomorrow.

Marcel says the spill near the boat ramp in Pilot Bay originated from a sewer in Adams Avenue and was reported to Council staff at 4pm.

Council suspected the blockage of a sewer pipe caused the spill. Read more here.
