Swimmers are advised to steer clear of Pilot Bay until a sewage spill into the western end of the bay has cleared.
Tauranga City Council communications advisor Marcel Currin says a sewer in Adams Avenue overflowed into Pilot Bay near the boat ramp on Monday at about 4.0pm.
Signs are being installed along the beach to warn people not to swim in Pilot Bay. File photo.
'Water quality samples will be taken tomorrow morning. We estimate an all-clear on Thursday morning, if not prior,” says Marcel.
Council suspected a blockage of a sewer pipe on Adams Avenue caused the sewage spill.
