TCDC water restrictions update

The Thames-Coromandel District Council is warning locals that a hose and/or sprinkler ban is currently in force within several communities on the peninsula.

Both a hose and sprinkler ban is in effect in Matatoki, while a sprinkler ban only is in place for the Omahu, Hahei and Matarangi communities.

In Whangamata, use of hand held hoses is restricted to alternate days, meaning odd-numbered addresses can use water on odd-numbered days, and even numbered addresses on even-numbered days.

There are currently no water restrictions in place for Thames, Puriri, Coromandel, Whitianga, Onemana, Tairua and Pauanui.

Council says water restrictions are reviewed daily but updates will only be provided when there is a change in water restriction status.

TOP 5 SMART WATER CONSERVATION TIPS:

  1. Wait until you can do full loads before you wash dishes or use the washing machine.
  2. Don't run the water when brushing your teeth.
  3. For cool drinking water, fill a jug and keep it in the fridge. Running water to cool it down can waste 10 litres a minute.
  4. For lawns, apply the ‘step test' – if grass springs back after you walk on it, it doesn't need watering.
  5. If your toilet has a dual flush button, use the half flush.
