My Summer Beach Base opens today

Mount Maunganui will be buzzing this summer after the opening of Tauranga City Council's My Summer Beach Base and family-friendly entertainment programme today.

Eight council ambassadors will be patrolling the beaches, out in the streets and down in the shopping areas providing people with all the information they will need to make this a summer to remember.

All ambassadors will be equipped with information on events, activities, road closures, vehicle passes, alcohol-free zones, recycling, competitions and giveaways taking place.

Event Delivery manager Michaela Blackman says their home will be at TCC's My Summer Beach Base, which can be found on the beach side of Mount Drury.

'Drop into the Beach Base, find some shade, drinking water and free sunscreen, and take the chance to get your summer photo taken,” says Michaela.

'The beach base will have recycling stations and the ambassadors will help to educate our community on the correct use of those stations to ensure that recycling is diverted from landfill.”

Michaela says the entertainment programme runs for more than three weeks and will offer plenty of fun for locals and holidaymakers to help them enjoy the summer.

'From family-friendly entertainment with pirates and acrobats, to concerts and movies, there is plenty going on at the Beach Base and the Mount Drury Family Stage this summer.”
