No time for parking overstayers

Changes to the enforcement of parking restrictions in Thames' CBD means overstayers in time zones marked P10, P20, P60 and P120 will now receive an instant ticket.

Thames-Coromandel District Council's Bylaws and Compliance team leader Steve Hart says for about six months they have been giving warnings to people overstaying the time restrictions.

To put it simply: 'It isn't working and it isn't cost efficient,” says Steve.

'We ask that businesses in the CBD encourage their staff to park in the Danby car park, which is never full, or find a park that has no restrictions and walk the short distance into town.

'Walking is healthy for your heart and your wallet.”

Steve adds the new car park on Mackay Street will provide a further 60 parking spaces a short distance away from the CBD.

The conversion of the old bowling green opposite our Council building to a public car park has begun and, weather permitting, should be completed by Christmas.

WHAT IT WILL COST FOR BEING PARKED OVER THE TIME LIMIT:

  • 0-30 minutes: $12
  • 30-60 minutes: $15
  • 60-120 minutes: $21
  • 2-4 hours: $30
  • 4-6 hours: $42
  • 6+ hours: $57
