Injured man's long walk for help

A Coromandel farmer endured a long walk to reach help after he was seriously injured following a quadbike accident on Monday afternoon.

An Auckland Westpac Rescue Helicopter Trust spokesperson says the 60-year-old man suffered head injuries when his quadbike rolled on his Colville farm sometime after 1pm.

"He walked for a long time to get help and was taken to the medical centre,” the spokesperson says.

St John's Amublance were alerted to the situation by the Colville Medical Centre and dispatched one ambulance and the Colville First Response at about 1.38pm.

The rescue helicopter arrived at the scene at about 2.10pm and later airlifted the injured man to Waikato Hospital in a serious condition.
