Fuel prices hit six-month low

Fuel prices took another tumble today – the fourth price drop in just a week.

On Wednesday, both BP and Z Energy dropped their national price of 91 octane petrol to $1.959 a litre.

This is the fourth time since October 15 that fuel prices have been cut by as much as two cents a litre.

Driven by falling world oil prices, the latest drop is believed to have taken the so called ‘national price' of petrol to the lowest level since April, according to data from the AA.

The national price tends to reflect the pump price at company owned sites, with some regions seeing discounting below the national price, while some areas which are further from ports pay more.

'We have seen some further reductions in cost of product,” says BP communications manager Shelley Brady.

'This, coupled with a slightly stronger Kiwi dollar, has meant that we are in a position to be able to decrease our national list price.”

How can 1.95 be seen as a drop. Parton Rd self pay is down to 1.85 from 1.89 and many others are below 1.90.
