Cricketers row for funds

Cricketers are rowing the distance from Katikati to Mount Maunganui and back as a fundraiser for their club at the Katikati A&P Show on Sunday.
Katikati Cricket Club Chairman Steve Long says a team of cricketers will row the 92km during the show's opening hours.

Andrew Mascall, 11, coached by his dad Jamie, with Christopher, 8, looking on.

He is hoping for great crowd support from people at the show; cheering them on and also showing some support for the club with donations.
To encourage this there will be a prize for the person who guesses the correct finishing time.
Also at the A&P Show, the cricket club is giving a training drills demonstration in the main ring at 10.30am, and activities running all day include a have-a-go bowling machine and a backyard cricket competition.
Steve says the club is using the show as a way to showcase the cricket club and gain some much needed sponsorship.
'We are trying to raise money to support the work we do with our youth teams and improve training facilities and coaching.”
The club welcomes new members of any age or ability from all sections of the Katikati community. Volunteers are welcome too.
The Katikati A&P Show is held at the showgrounds and open from 9am-4pm.
