Win and loss for TBC

There is little respite for the Tauranga Boys' College First XI, which has a week of Super Eight cricket in Napier on their agenda before returning home to face Baywide Club cricket on Saturday and the Williams Cup Final the next day.

For this reason, the day one washout on Monday at the Super Eight was welcomed by the team as it became a rest day for them.

A rejig of the tournament format has seen the best North Island secondary school cricket sides playing a Twenty20 round robin competition for the remainder of the tournament.

Tauranga Boys' finished the first day of play, Tuesday, with a win and a loss.

First up, Palmerston North Boys' High batted first and were dismissed for 147 – with Tauranga Boys' then removed for 102.

Individual Tauranga Boys' highlights were Myles Timoti returning 2/26 with the ball, with older brother Elliott top scoring with 21 runs.

The afternoon encounter with Gisborne Boys' High resulted in the Western Bay School grabbing their first win. Tauranga Boys' took first use of the batting strip to score 129 with Shaun McCarthy 25 and Elliott Timoti 23 leading the way with the bat.

A determined Tauranga Boys' bowling attack saw the Gisborne side removed for just 91. Tom Clout 2/13 and Francois Potgieter 2/22 both made life difficult for the opposition batsman.
