Waikato Regional Council is reminding dairy farmers and others under financial pressure that options are available for making rates payments.

Finance committee chairwoman Jane Hennebry says council recognise times are tight and dairy farmers are facing a significant downturn in the milk payout.

'This means some will be struggling to meet various costs and others could be affected financially by the farmers' situations.”

Jane says the council is able to offer ratepayers the ability to pay off rates by ongoing direct debits, and there were a range of other options to help make payments easier.

'We encourage anyone facing difficulties to contact our rates team to discuss their options.”'
