Sandra Goudie’s stepping down

Coromandel MP Sandra Goudie is retiring from public office this year after serving in Parliament for the region for the last nine years.

She first came to Parliament in 2002 after she defeated then Greens party leader Jeanette Fitzsimons.

She will now leave Parliament at the general election to be held this year.

Prime Minister John Key is yet to make any comment as to when this will be.

Sandra, 59, does not have plans for what she will do after Parliament, but says she is ready to move on.

'After nine fantastic years serving the people of the Coromandel it's time to park up the Falcon,” says Sandra.

This is in reference to her iconic electioneering tool; a Ford Falcon V8 painted in National colours.

Sandra says the highlights of her time representing the people of the Coromandel are seeing in the construction of the Kopu Bridge and the Whangamata Marina.

Doesn't parliamentary super kick in after 9years(?).What Kopu bridge its ages away and I understand the Whangamata Marina doesn't have universal approval either.Probably anticipates fallout from Foreshore & Seabed Act a bit quicker than John Boy.All in all a bleak picture for National in Coromandel

Barff off-- NZTA in latest update state Kopu Bridge will not be finished until at least mid-2012 and Thames Coromandel District Council has not been happy with the delays. You don't need a Marina for a safe anchorage.Politicians are all the same red blue green whatever and I have no particular thoughts on lakes or mangroves. If I can help round off you education on any other topics don't hesitate to let me know.
