No change to ramp fees & charges

Coromandel boaties will be glad to know there will be no increases to boat ramp parking and amenity fees and charges.

The Thames-Coromandel District Council did not increase prices when it released their new fees and charges on July 1.

But Mercury Bay Councillor Tony Fox says even at the facilities where parking and amenity permits apply they have the option for those with smaller craft to launch at serviced places with no charge.

In other good news: upgrades have been planned for facilities in Matarangi, Kuaotunu, Purangi and Whitianga (Dundas Street/Robinson Road) over the next two years.

Tony says while the Long Term Plan harbours fees and charges page lists all of Mercury Bay as a permit area, changes will only be considered as and when council and the community upgrade the facilities, such as the Mercury Bay boat ramp.

He adds: 'When these facility upgrades are complete, they will then be added to the list of locations where permits will be considered.

'Of course, all facilities in the Mercury Bay area that incur charges will simply be covered by the same permit.”

Until then, council will not be charging for permits in any of these new areas and will provide more information about the upgrade projects in the future.
