His appointment was announced today and he will replace external member Leigh Hopper who resigned from the committee due to work commitments.

'We want to thank Leigh for his commitment and contribution to the Committee and welcome Chris to the board,” says committee chair Brent Page.

Chris owns property on the Coromandel and along with being the current managing director he is also shareholder of Flight Centre NZ.

Among his achievements Chris grew Flight Centre NZ from six shops to 130 shops and teams, plus expanded the business from retail to include corporate and wholesale.

He is also owner and managing director of Barkers, which includes the 50 per cent management of Top Shop NZ, since 2006.

The Economic Development Committee ensures council's Economic Development Strategy is implemented, and opportunities and risks to council and other organisations are identified.

The next meeting of the Economic Development Committee will take place on Monday, August 17.
