It’s no secret that smoking kills. It’s lesser known, however, that many of the chemicals that make smoking deadly are created through combustion – when tobacco burns above 600 degrees.

So PMI asked: what if you could get your nicotine, without lighting up?

After continuing self-conducted and independent studies around the world, they have created a range of Heat not Burn (HnB) products that indirectly apply heat to tobacco, creating aerosol, not smoke.

Under the brand IQOS, they have developed a series of HnB products that suit differing styles, but share the benefits of a lower-risk vaping experience.

These products are designed to replicate the smoking ritual, but reduces the risk for smokers who would otherwise continue to smoke. The best option, however, is to quit.

No burning, less harm

As a highly addictive stimulant, the spotlight is usually placed on nicotine when discussing the harms of smoking.

However, it’s not the prime suspect for causing smoking-related diseases. That guilt predominantly lies with the toxins created when burning tobacco — of which there are thousands.

PMI discovered that nicotine can be transferred from tobacco at just over half of combustion temperature, meaning burning tobacco isn’t required to get a nicotine fix.

The products are a less-risk alternative for adults who already smoke.

In a PMI peer-reviewed study, HnB products showed a reduction of more than 90% for the majority of the analysed harmful and potentially harmful constituents when compared to a standard cigarette. Note, average reductions in levels of a broad range of harmful chemicals (excluding nicotine) compared to the smoke of a reference cigarette (3R4F). It does not necessarily equal to a 90% reduction in risk.
 

Taking off the heat

PMI’s exclusive state-of-the-art Heatcontrol technology uses a ceramic heating blade to regulate temperature.

This ensures it remains at 350 degrees or lower, never reaching the temperature of combustion of 400 degrees. As a comparison, cigarette temperatures can burn between 600 to 800 degrees.

The heating blade’s control creates a consistent taste that’s similar to that of a cigarette, without the harshness.

Each HnB device charges electronically with charging times differing between products, satisfying a range of preferences.

Clearing the fog

Using a smoke-free product improves the air of those around you.

PMI compared normal air quality in differing indoor environments to air where HnB products were used.

While smoking a cigarette showed a significant increase in 18 compounds in the air compared to its original state, HnB only showed an increase in 2 compounds.  The two that were higher, nicotine and acetaldehyde, still measured much lower than a cigarette, reducing the harm of second-hand inhalation.

No smell, no stress

From the car to your clothes, the stench of a cigarette is hard to mask. HnB products are smoke-free, making the stress of returning to the office after a lunch break a thing of the past, and saying goodbye to the mess of ash.
