Work on a two-lane exit out of Rhodes Park south of Thames is expected to be completed by the end of June.
Up until now the existing exit has been only one lane and this new exit should help reduce waiting times for people leaving Rhodes Park after sports games.

Funding and layout design approval from the Thames Community Board caps off months of work with the NZ Transport Agency to get approvals for a new Rhodes Park entranceway and exit.
At its April 13 meeting, the community board approved an additional budget of up to $25,000 from Thames depreciation reserves to enable the new Rhodes Park entranceway/exit.
The Thames-Coromandel District Council says the changes involve more than just painting new lines on the existing entranceway.
'To make the entranceway fit three lanes – one entrance lane and two exit lanes – we need to widen the southern side of the Rhodes park entrance.”
This work involves the construction of new footpath ramps, widening the entrance road pavement, construction of new barrier kerb and channel, and widening the seal on the State Highway.
It also includes an extension to the culvert plus the nstallation of a new mountable inlet structure, which is a grating ramp over the end of the pipe.
Other work includes: regarding a section of the existing footpath to match new kerb levels, extending the existing speed hump, relocating signs, rubbish bin and a section of fence, plus applying new intersection road markings.
