At Buffalo Beach, large swells overnight took out a section of the footpath by the toilet block and contractors are currently on site carrying out emergency repair work.

Contractors are working against the clock to put rock spall in and carry out a sand push before this afternoon's high tide at 4pm.

While over at Cooks Beach there was erosion at the reserve near the end of the rock seawall and contractors are also working hard to have a rock spall and sand push in place before this afternoon.

There is also an emergency water shutdown taking place in Coromandel Town in order to carry out urgent repairs, which is expected to last until 12.30pm.

Properties along Long Bay Rd, Harbour View Rd, Huihana Lane, Wyuna Bay Rd and Glenfern Dr will be affected.

Power was also down for a period in Coromandel Town, Long Bay, Ruffins Bay, Sanfords Fish, Whanganui Island and Wyuna Bay last night.

At the time of writing there were no power outages reported on the PowerCo Faults webpage.

Across the district the rain has fallen steadily, with Waikato Regional Council's Castle Rock Matawai Catchment monitoring site recording 51mm of rainfall over the past 24 hours.

The Pinnacles Kauaeranga Catchment monitoring site recorded 98.5mm of rainfall in 24 hours.

On the district's roads, council has received reports of the 309 Rd being closed 8km from the Whitianga end, but were awaiting on further details. All other roads were open, with only minor debris being reported.

About 14 schools and kindergartens across the district were also shut down today due to the weather warnings in place that were in place earlier.
