Staff and volunteers at the Tauranga Environment Centre are preparing to set up new headquarters in a historic classroom that is over 100 years old.
The move from its current office on Elizabeth Street in the CBD to the old classroom in the Historic Village should be complete by November 26.
Tauranga Environment Centre coordinator Glen Crowther says the historic classroom was built over 100 years ago and was located in Papamoa.
'It's currently just looking like a big school room but we want to divide it up for the different community groups to meet.”
He says the price of rent at their Elizabeth Street building was a factor when deciding to move.
'It was a bit sad to move out of the CBD but the cost of the rent was one factor.
'It will be quite nice to be part of the network down at the Historic Village.”
The centre was based at Elizabeth Street since its inception eight years ago.
Items from the Environment Centre are currently in storage in another building at the Historic Village.
Glen is appealing for volunteers to help move the items into the new office on Wednesday, November 24.
