Sun to stream across the Bay

A sunny weekend is forecast for the majority of New Zealand due to a high pressure system sitting over the country.

A front in southern and eastern parts of New Zealand will bring showers but they will diminish as the front weakens.

More sun is predicted for the Bay of Plenty.

The MetService is predicting daytime heat to also bring isolated showers to some inland areas, with the North Island looking mainly fine.

Temperatures in the Bay of Plenty will remain around the 25 degree mark during the day.

Overnight lows are set to be around 15 to 17 degrees throughout the weekend.

'The Art Deco weekend in Napier will see plenty of sunshine with temperatures in the 20s,” says MetService meteorologist Emma Blades.

Elsewhere, isolated showers may spring up from the afternoon heat from the Central Plateau to Northland, and a few showers are possible in the south and east on Sunday from a weakening front.

'Hopefully those showers won't cause any problems for the competitors taking part in the Round the Bays in Wellington on Sunday,” adds Emma.
