Summer sun to continue

Its business as usual for the Bay of Plenty's summer with another week of sun set to shine on the region.

The Metservice are forecasting a ridge of high pressure across New Zealand for much of the week ahead.

However, a weakening front will make its way northwards over the country towards Friday, followed by another ridge of high pressure.

'While the broad high sitting over New Zealand will be the talk of the town, there is still a potential for significant showers over inland areas in the north, especially in the early part of this week," says meteorologist Rob Kerr.

Tauranga boasts another week of fine spells and 25 or 26 degrees through until Friday, apart from the odd chance of some showers tomorrow.

Further down the coast, Whakatane is also sitting pretty with a few afternoon/evening showers tomorrow before long fine spells and temperatures of 26 or 27 degrees.

Rob says the ridge of high pressure bowls a perfect length for the ICC Cricket World Cup games in Nelson and Dunedin – expected to be mainly fine and sunny – with cloudy periods forecast for Friday's match between the Blackcaps and England in Wellington.

The front moving over the South Island from midweek is expected to bring a spell of showers accompanied by a southerly change, mainly to western areas.

The front weakens as it moves further north, which is good news for next weekend's Splore festival, starting in Auckland on Friday.
