Tauranga Boys' College bowed out of the 2010 Gillette Cup on when they were defeated by one of the real heavyweights of secondary schools cricket in recent years.
The Tauranga representatives needed to defeat Hamilton Boys' High School in the Northern Districts final to progress to the national finals in December.
After losing the toss, Tauranga Boys' bowled first and dismissed the home side for 229. Josh Dwight was the best of the visitors bowling attack finishing with 3/41. However, several dropped catches by the Tauranga Boys' fielders didn't help their cause.
The Western Bay school side got away to a flyer reaching 91 without loss.
Sean McCarthy (44) and Elliott Timoti (43) gave their side an outstanding start.
However, the Hamilton bowlers grabbed the ascendancy, with their three off spinners strangling the Tauranga attempts to hit out.
The Tauranga Boys' bid to grab a place in the 2010 Gillette Cup finals came to an end when they were removed for 147.

Coastlands emerged victorious in the senior secondary school age game, and the two junior secondary fixtures while Lakeland's took out both primary matches.
