Today in the Hamilton District Court an arrest warrant was issued for 27-year-old Jamie Dass who is known to target people in the Hamilton area.

Waikato District Command Centre senior sergeant Rupert Friend says Dass often preys on older members of the community, and people who might be more vulnerable.

'He is known to approach people for money in the Hamilton area,” says Rupert. 'Dass usually uses a story about needing petrol money to get somewhere, often stating it has to do with a sick relative or similar.

'He can be very convincing when telling his story, but it is always that, a story he tells people to make them feel sorry for him and then they will give him money.”

If anyone is approached in this manner it is recommended they do not hand over money.

Dass is described as a male, European, 168cm tall and of thin build. He has clearly identifiable skin marks and scars on his face.

Any sightings of Mr Dass should be notified to Police on 111, if he is present at the time, or the Waikato District Command Centre on 07 8597807.

Alternatively information can be given anonymously via Crimestoppers on 0800555111.
