More fine weather ahead

The sunshine gods will continue to smile on the Bay this weekend as a front marches northwards.

The MetService says after a sustained period of settled weather for much of the country, an intensifying low and an accompanying front over the Tasman Sea are set to usher in more changeable weather in the coming days.

The Bay of Plenty's sunshine will continue through the weekend.

This first front advances over the South Island on Friday before weakening, but another front heads northwards on the weekend.

These fronts will bring bursts of rain to western parts of the South Island and blustery but warm northwest winds to eastern places, says meteorologist Rob Kerr.

It's a different story for the weather in the north, with the MetService forecasting sunshine for the next five days.

Cloud is expected to creep in across the Bay on Saturday and Sunday, with the slightest chance of a shower on Sunday.

Daily highs are expected to vary between 25 and 28 degrees, while overnight lows are expected to drop to around 16-19 degrees over the weekend.

Looking ahead to Monday, the second front should weaken over the North Island while a cooler southwest change spreads over the South Island, says Rob.

'Fine spells and a few showers are on the cards for western areas, and mostly fine conditions in the east,” he says.
