One person is in serious condition and another has moderate injuries after a three-car crash on State Highway 2, near Netherton Road, in Paeroa.

Police say the crash has completely blocked the road, but it is hoped the road will be re-opened at about 2.30pm this afternoon.

The Westpac Rescue Helicopter has been called in to fly a seriously injured person to hospital.

'A diversion is in place via side roads in Paeroa,” says a statement from police.

The cause of the crash is being investigated.
