Car crashes into rubbish bins

A pedestrian is understood to have sustained minor injuries after a motorist mounted a Tauranga footpath crashing into rubbish bins on Cameron Road this afternoon.

Emergency services responded to reports of a silver sedan crashing into a set of rubbish bins at Tasty Thai Restaurant on the corner of Cameron Road and Fourth Avenue about 2.55pm.

Western Bay of Plenty road policing manager Senior Sergeant Ian Campion understands a pedestrian received minor injuries after being hit by the vehicle.

It is understood the driver wasn't hurt in the crash.

Police, St John and Tauranga Fire Brigade attended the scene.

I witnessed this crash, & the pedestrians involved were extremely lucky to have not been seriously hurt. I don;t know the reson for the crash, but after taking down a give Way sign, running over the footpath, rubbish bins, & into the side of the building, I think something is seriously wrong. As a witnesses view, the driver appeared to not be concentrating. . . .

This was a young girl driver - leave the oldies alone - they don't have one eye on the road and the other on their mobiles!!

From what I had seen, this driver wasn't an elderly person. She was a reasonably younger person. Probably on the phone txting. . . . not concentrating.
