A thunderstorm watch issued for the Bay of Plenty overnight has been lifted.
The MetService issued at the watch after thunderstorms formed over the ranges of Gisborne and the Eastern Bay of Plenty and slowly moved west-northwest towards lower lying areas of the Bay.
Thunderstorms briefly rumbled in the Bay overnight before moving out to sea.
While there was no rain in the region, thunder rumbling across the sky was reported by one SunLive reader.
The MetService says the storms have now moved on and the Bay can expect to see a fine day with morning high cloud and chance of late showers.
Today's high is expected to hit around 24 degrees with an overnight low of 14.
