Multi-million dollar road works are planned in the Bay of Plenty this month, with the first set starting on State Highway 29 between Tauranga and Hamilton next week.
The NZ Transport Agency says people should expect delays for about three days while contractors resurface the stretch of highway.
Resurfacing works are planned for SH29 and SH2 next week.
'Stop/go traffic management and a speed restriction of 30km/h will be in place between the Ngamuwahine Road Bridge and Soldiers Road Bridge, from Monday December 8 until Wednesday December 10, to allow contractors to reseal an 800m stretch of the route,” says a statement from the roading organisation.
The work will be carried out between 9am and 4pm to avoid interruption during peak traffic times.
'The job is weather dependent and may be postponed if necessary,” adds the statement.
Road works valued at $5.3 million in the Bay of Plenty have been taking place on a number of state highways in the region since October, and are not scheduled to end until April next year.
Other works planned for the area will affect motorists travelling towards Hamilton or Rotorua via Takitimu Drive and the Route K toll road.
Contractors will be carrying out major pavement repair works from December 9 through to December 12.
These will take place on the SH2 off-ramp to Route K from 6am to 7pm.
The NZ Transport Agency says Route K will remain open, however the off ramp exit point will be moved 300m north towards Bethlehem and the off ramp surface may be uneven at times.
'Stop/go traffic management and a 50km/h speed restriction will be in place on that stretch of Route K and the neighbouring northbound sections of Tamatea Arikinui Drive (SH2) and Fifteenth Avenue,” says the roading agency.
'The works are weather dependent and may be postponed a week if necessary.”

Monday December 8 until Wednesday December 10, to allow contractors to reseal an 800m stretch of the route,” THREE days to reseal 800 meters - that's just over 250 meters a day. Heard off to any overseas 1st world country and its a done and dusted job in 24 hours - YES they work 24/7 .... about time that the same happened here. Expensive machinery that's used 9am to 4 pm, is left sitting on the side of the road for 17 hours a day - and we the motorist are paying for it through the "contracts". NZTA should insist that such work is done 24/7 and thus the machinery is USED and people get employed to actually use it 24/7.
