The 37-year-old man was arrested yesterday afternoon as police continue to investigate the stabbing of man in the early hours of Sunday morning.

The victim received minor stab wounds and was taken to Tauranga Hospital where he was later discharged.

The second alleged offender is also charged with assault with a weapon.

Suppression was granted for the accused as the police investigation is in its early stages and publication of his identity could raise fair trial issues.

He was remanded in custody by consent and is due to appear in court next, along with his alleged co-offender, on December 16.

Detective Senior Sergeant Greg Turner says the arrest was in relation to the stabbing which happened earlier in the morning.

'The murder of 19-year-old Takena Tiepa-Ranapia remains unresolved and we are calling on the public and associates to come forward with information,” he says.

'We are particularly interested in the maroon four-door Ford Laser that was in the Tauranga and Mount Maunganui areas between midnight and 1am.”
