Your correspondent K R Roke (24 Sept.) has it absolutely right. What a complete waste of ratepayers' money which will be the thick end of one million dollars – perhaps the street lighting has gone underground but the rest is little different and it was fine as it was. It's got the upcoming elections written all over it. The main problem is that the shop owners should be renovating the shop fronts, facades and verandas to make them more attractive which is their responsibility, not TCC ratepayers.
‘Bunnies' and ‘mad hatters' are apt descriptions for those who drove this thing into the limelight with a hiss and a roar, when Council is bleating that it is strapped for cash.
