Despite a cloudy start in Tauranga, the MetService is forecasting a fine day with light winds and a high of 17 degrees.

As the MetService warns parts of the country of the chance of thunderstorms, duty forecaster Hannah Moes says the main centres will dodge the bad weather.

The day looks a bit grey in Tauranga.

She says Auckland today could expect fine conditions with southerly breezes, Wellington was sunny with afternoon southerlies, and Christchurch was fine apart from morning and evening cloud.

Tomorrow looks to be a similar story with a forecast of fine weather, light winds, and a high of 20 degrees in Tauranga.

Hannah says some showers will pop up in the afternoon, mainly around the Wairarapa, Marlborough, and Otago.
