Part of Lake McLaren at McLaren Falls Park is closed for safety reasons following a land slip.

Tauranga City Council says the slip occurred during last week's heavy rain but it is not yet known how long the section will be closed.

The rest of the lake remains open.

The closure means a popular spot which people often kayak through to see the glow worms at night is unable to be reached.
