Tauranga Police are unimpressed with the spate of vehicle crashes in the Western Bay of Plenty at the weekend.
'Disappointing to say the least,” says Western Bay of Plenty road policing manager Senior Sergeant Ian Campion.
A truck and trailer unit rolled on SH2, near Thompsons Track.
The most serious incident was the truck and trailer that rolled on State Highway 2 at 7.15am Saturday near Thompson's Track.
Police are still investigating whether to lay charges against the driver, says Ian.
'The driver was taken to hospital moderate injuries. I understand that has been down-graded. That resulted in SH2 being restricted to one lane for four hours.”
The truck, carrying precast concrete panels, brought down powerlines when it rolled, closing one lane of the highway for a number of hours. Read more about that here.
Other crashes around the city were vehicle crashes without injury to occupants, including a six car nose-to-tail at the Bayfair roundabout at 6.22pm Friday night.
Five cars had stopped for traffic, the driver of the sixth car collided into the rear of the fifth car. The driver of the sixth car didn't see them, says Ian. Alcohol wasn't involved.
'One would expect people to take extreme care, particularly approaching a busy roundabout,” says Ian.
A motorcyclist, who crashed in Tukorako Drive Mount Maunganui at 9.24am Saturday, sustained moderate injuries.
A cyclist also took out a car in Bellevue Road at 11.50am on Saturday was transported to hospital with minor injuries. The cyclist was at fault in the collision, says Ian.
