Chiefs show support for Adams

Kiwi NBA star Steven Adams has the Chiefs full support behind him as his Oklahoma City Thunder side attempt to make the NBA Final Series.

A video posted this week by the Chiefs shows the squad wishing the Rotorua-born player good luck ahead of game two of the semi-final series against San Antonio Spurs this afternoon.

The Spurs currently lead the series 1-0 after trouncing the Thunder 122-105, with Adams having a particularly quiet night.

Adams played 17 minutes and contributed four points, two rebounds, a block and an assist.

Despite this he has made a big impression on the NBA during his rookie season.

Expected by many pundits to spend most of the season in the NBA development league, instead he continues to exceed expectations, featuring in 81 of the Oklahoma City Thunder's 82 regular season games.

He has also played in all 13 playoff games so far for the Thunder.

The rising NBA star is an avid fan of the defending Super Rugby champions and the All Blacks and is often seen post-match fronting the media in a Chiefs jersey.

The 19-year-old hailing from a family of 18 – including 2 time Olympic gold medallist Valerie Adams – was picked at number 12 by the Oklahoma City Thunder to receive a starting salary of $2.2million in his first year.

He becomes only the second New Zealander to be picked in the draft and first in the top 30 following Sean Marks who was drafted 44 overall in the 1998 NBA draft by the New York Knicks.
