Earlier this week the Government announced its Budget for 2014 with a focus on supporting families and returning to surplus.

Finance Minister Bill English announced a forecast $372m surplus next year and increasing surpluses in subsequent years with the economy growing by between 2 and 4 per cent annually in the next four years.

A key feature in this year's Budget was a $500 million support package for young families and vulnerable children in need of protection and care.
