Bay of Plenty Police have released a computerised image of a man found dead in a Rotorua park after numerous public pleas have failed to identify the man.
Police say the man's body was found in Linton Park reserve on Monday and is yet to be identified.
A computerised sketch of the man found dead at a park in Rotorua.
It is likely he died sometime over the weekend in a small wooded area near the Riri Street industrial area.
The man is described as a solid built Maori or Polynesian, 190cm tall, with short black hair and facial hair.
He was found wearing khaki ‘Dickies' shorts and shirt, red Nike shoes and a blue Bulldogs NRL cap.His age is unclear but it is possible he is in his 20s.
Police say it is important to stress that the image supplied is a likeliness and someone who is similar but doesn't fit the image 100 percent shouldn't be ruled out.
Detective Sergeant Tony Colby says the man does have a distinguishing mark on his left cheek, which is darker than his skin colour and possibly a birthmark. Although only small, it may be something that would be memorable to a family member or friend.
'It is highly unusual to find ourselves in this situation.
'The location where he was found would suggest he was local or familiar with the area, but the more time passes without anyone coming forward the more we have to consider that maybe he is from out of town.
'Not every parent is in contact with their adult children on a day-to-day basis, but I'm sure every parent would want to know if something happened to their son or daughter, so we are asking everyone to spread the word so that we can do the right thing by this man and his family.”
