Nominations open for TECT election

Nominations for the 2014 TECT election are now open with three trustee positions up for grabs.

Prospective candidates have until 12pm on Wednesday, June 4, to submit their nominations to join returning trustees Bruce Cronin, Bill Holland and Ken Collings.

Independent returning officer Warwick Lampp will manage the TECT election process.

Independent returning officer Warwick Lampp from electionz.com has again been appointed to manage the election process.

He will host a candidate information meeting at the TECT office on May 20, at 7pm, to explain the election process, what is involved in completing nomination documents and general information about being a TECT trustee.

The TECT Trust is administered by six trustees, with three trustees retiring by rotation every two years – giving each trustee a four year term.

This year the three retiring trustees are Michael Cooney, Susan Devoy and Ron Scott.

The retiring trustees can re-stand if they wish.

In 2012 Tauranga lawyer Bill Holland was the only newcomber to the trust, when retiring trustees Bruce Cronin and Ken Collings were re-elected in the vote.

Bill polled in the top spot with a total of 6562 votes, ousting previous trustee Mark Groos, who came in fourth with 2965 votes.

A total of 15,750 people voted in the election - a voter turnout of 29.94 per cent. This was up one per cent on the previous election in 2010.

To be considered, 2014 candidates must be TECT consumers and be nominated by two separate TECT consumers. They are required to provide a profile statement of 150 words or less and a recent photo.

If more than three nominations are received an election will be carried out by postal and internet voting.

All TECT consumers are eligible to vote for the trustees, with voting papers mailed out to approximately 53,000 eligible voters on June 30.

The election would close on Friday, July 25, 2014, after a three week voting period.

Any queries about the election or eligibility to vote can be made to Warwick on 0508 666 337.
