Fine weather short lived

The wet spell during ANZAC day will clear away this weekend as a front departs and a large anticyclone moves in across the country.

The MetService is forecasting fine but cloudy weather for the Bay of Plenty today and tomorrow with the chance of some more showers on Monday, before the anticyclone moves in.

Media and communications meteorologist Dan Corbett says after an up and down week of passing troughs and dry spells, a good sized high will bring some fine weather.

'The air mass that moves in with the weekend anticyclone will certainly feel like autumn, with the risk for frost down south in the early hours of Saturday and Sunday.

'The brisk westerlies of the roaring forties will keep our fine spell short lived, with another rainmaker bringing wet weather to the West Coast of the South Island by Sunday afternoon.” Dan says this weather system will set the scene for a wet start for the upcoming week, with a band of rain moving across the country followed by a spell persistent rain up the east coast of the country accompanied by a brisk, cool southerly.
