Casting more than a vote

Next Saturday, November 8 is a very important day.

Acting operations manager Senior Sergeant Dave Archibald with Carters manager Warren Haydock, Blue Light coordinator Wendy Nicholls and three-year-old Liam Nicholls.

I'm not talking about the general election, which most of us have probably already heard enough of. I'm talking about the Blue Light Carters Kids Gone Fishin' Day where you can cast something much more enjoyable than a vote.
This is the annual event where kids get to go fishing and meet fishing guru Graham Sinclair.
There will be a free sausage sizzle and bait will be provided as well.
All you have to do is get yourself and your gear along to the Tauranga Bridge Marina for the event. For those who don't have their own gear, there will be a limited number of handlines available on the day.
Registration forms can be filled in at all Carters branches and at the Durham St Police Station. Alternatively you can register on the day at the event.
Blue Light coordinator Wendy Nicholls says the event attracted about 1000 people last year.
'There will be spot prizes given away on the day rather than prizes for the biggest fish etc, because the emphasis is on having fun, rather than competing.”
Wendy also warns that people coming to the event from the Mount Maunganui area should be aware they will have to come right across the harbour bridge and around the roundabout at the bottom of Dive Crescent to get to the venue.
'This is because of the roadworks around the bridge. But don't let that put you off what will be a great day out.”
The Blue Light Carters Kids Gone Fishin' Day is on Saturday November 8 from 1.30-4pm at the Bridge Marina.
