Tomorrow anti 1080 campaigners are organising protests throughout New Zealand against the use of the poison.
Although there is no official protest organised in Tauranga this time, near neighbours Coromandel/Whitianga and Rotorua are organising protests.
However the manager of firearms supplies at Tauranga hunting store Hamills, Marcus Tweddell says it is time the average New Zealander realised what a risk the poison poses to our fauna, our water supplies and our health in general.
The store has erected a large sign on the side of their premises calling for a ban on 1080.
'I have been hunting down in the Tongariro National Park area for 30 years,” says Marcus, 'and since they began using 1080 I have seen the wildlife numbers severely reduced.”
Marcus says he is sick and tired of the support the Department of Conservation has given to the use of the chemical.
'Those of us who have seen the documentary Poisoning Paradise know that DOC's science is flawed and I am sick of them trying to feed misinformation to the public and minimising the risks.
'This is not just a concern for hunters it is something that affects us all.”
