SH2 detour at Omokoroa

A detour put in place on SH2 for north-bound light vehicles will remain or two weeks to allow for road works along the state highway from the Waipapa River Bridge to just south of Francis Rd.

New Zealand Transport Agency says the detour will only affect traffic heading north towards Katikati.

A detour put in place on SH2 for north-bound light vehicles will remain for two weeks.

Light vehicles will detour via Youngson Road and Old Highway Road, while all heavy vehicles and residents of Francis Road and Omokoroa Road will be able to access this section of SH2 through a manual stop/go traffic operation, but under a speed restriction.

NZ Transport Agency media manager Glenda Dobbyn says the detour will only affect traffic heading north towards Katikati.

'Light vehicles will detour via Youngson Rd and Old Highway Rd, while all heavy vehicles and residents of Francis Rd and Omokoroa Rd will be able to access this section of SH2 through a manual stop/go traffic operation, but under speed restriction.”

Traffic heading south towards Tauranga will still be able to travel along this section of SH2 through the road works, but a speed restriction will be in place.

From tomorrow onwards, work will start at 6am and go through to 6pm daily. Provided weather conditions permit, the road surface rehabilitation work is expected to be completed by February 24.

The work, part of the NZTA's annual maintenance activity, is being done to ensure the road surface is safe for driving on all year long, says Glenda.

'The Transport Agency would like to apologise to motorists for any inconvenience and thanks them for their patience while this important work is being undertaken.”

Work is expected to be completed by February 24. ANYWHERE else in NZ or overseas they would work over night until the job is done! TWO WEEKS, that is ridiculous!!
