Tauranga is looking to have clear skies in the next four days before rain edges its way in on Sunday.
Temperatures in the city will remain the same as they have in previous weeks, with daily highs around 25 degrees and overnight lows between 15 and 17 degrees.
Waitangi Day celebrations in Tauranga look set to be unhampered by shows with fine weather in the forecast.
MetService media and communications meteorologist Dan Corbett says the typical summer pattern is continuing with some good sized slow moving highs.
He says sandwiched in these highs will be an area of low pressure, which will bring wet weather to many parts of the country.
'The best of the weather for Waitangi Day will be in the south of the country as rain retreats northwards during the day.
'This passing weather system could be quite active for a time, bringing some brief heavy bursts of rain together with the risk of scattered thunderstorms especially along the west coast.” Dan says this weather system should become confined to the far north by the weekend allowing drier and more settled weather to return, just in time for the HSBC Rugby Sevens taking place in Wellington.

You must be joking. Waitangi day is a national disgrace. A day where we get to watch maori spitting, throwing eggs, and behaving worse than children.
No jed ...

No jed, what is most unfortunate is that we have a few among us who resort to somewhat, I suspect, racist and generally inaccurate remarks. It's true to say that Waitangi Day has been seen as an opportunity by a few to make known their feelings in regards matters the Crown versus Maori, but from my observations and participation, most who participate are and mindfully respectful. Now, if you'd like to share your thoughts on a 'New Zealand Day', you'll have my positive attention!
