This family is the winner of the Bayfair Sustainable Family Competition for their photos and 1000 word essay, which outline the initiatives they practice to be sustainable.
The practices they undertake include having breakfast cereal from bulk bins in the pantry with freshly made yoghurt, children's chores using homemade, environmentally friendly cleaning products and their 1km-walk, 3km- cycle rule for clean transportation to after school activities.
The Sun Media supported contest saw the family receive an Apple MacBook computer with Office:mac software plus a carry sleeve, worth more than $1800 as first place winners.
Warwick and Christine Gilmour of Te Puna and their children won second place prize of a family portrait package from Tulloch Photography valued at $1260, including pre-portrait consultation, the photo session and a framed portrait.
Michael and Brenda Wotton and their children Nicholas, 8, and Chris, 6, of Tauranga took third place, winning a $150 gift hamper.
